What is Salvation?

I imagine you have heard the verse from John 3:16 many times. It says:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
The question is, what does it mean?

It points to a choice we all have to make in our lives, and this choice is made either consciously when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior or by default when we ignore the issue.
We have to make a choice because Adam and Eve made a choice. They chose to listen to the lies of Satan instead of the voice of God, thus bringing sin and death into the world.
But God wants to restore mankind to himself and rescue him from the power of sin in our lives. He did this by allowing his son, Jesus Christ to die a substitutionary death on the cross. Jesus paid for our sins so that we may have eternal life.

Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8 tells us that God loved us so that “when we were in our sin Christ Jesus came to die for us.

Second Corinthians 5:21 says, “He who knew no sin became sin for us, that we may be made the righteousness of God through Him.”

Because we have free will we have to choose to accept Christ’s sacrifice.

How do you choose? How do we accept the gift of life Christ died to give you?

Romans 10:13 says: “…whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:9-10 says “…that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

Here is a simple step by step guide: (just a suggestion)
Talk to Jesus. Tell him you know you are a sinner and unable to save yourself. Tell him you are
sorry for your sins and ask him to come into your heart.
Believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, and rose on the third day.
Confess with your mouth. This just means you have to tell someone that you have accepted Christ. Tell a friend, a family member.

Here is a simple prayer a friend of mine suggests:
“Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for all the times I’ve failed you. I know I can’t erase the sins, but I believe Jesus can. I need a Savior. I believe that Jesus, your Son, died on the cross to be my Savior. I believe He rose from the grave on the third day to live as my Lord and King. I turn away from my sin (repent means to ‘turn away’), and I ask you to forgive my sins. I ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and become my Savior. I receive you as my Lord. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me.”
God guarantees that when we pray a prayer of faith in his Son and repentance, we are saved.

John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

God Bless.
